Koha Cloud hosting for Pakistani libraries

Pakistan’s first managed library automation cloud — hosted, maintained and supported by PASTIC.

History

PASTIC pioneered cloud computing for libraries in Pakistan. It was first used to build PakCat, the union catalogue of Pakistani books, under the PASTIC project “Modernization of PASTIC National Science Reference Library with Effective Resource Sharing” (2 August 2017).

PASTIC adapted the Koha library system to local needs together with Pakistani library professionals, and on 18 October 2017 consortium members met and decided to adopt it.

What your library gets

  • Daily backups, checked for completeness; you can also export your data at any time

  • Z39.50 / SRU connection so your holdings can appear in PakCat
  • Support and training from the PASTIC team

Who it is for

Koha Cloud is for consortium member libraries that want a complete library system without running their own server: university and college libraries, S&T and R&D organisations, and public and special libraries.

Your staff use Koha in the browser for cataloguing (MARC 21), circulation, patrons, serials and reports. Readers search your public catalogue (OPAC) from anywhere, and your records can also be found through PakCat.

Moving from another library system

PASTIC moves your existing records into Koha free of charge. Send an export of your catalogue (MARC records, or a spreadsheet from your current software) and a list of your patrons if you want them carried over.

  • Records are loaded and indexed so they can be searched straight away
  • Your library administrator gets a Koha login for your own staff
  • PASTIC keeps its own support account in case you need help

How to request Koha Cloud

  1. Choose your proformaUniversity or college — pick the form that matches your institution.
  2. Fill it inComplete the request proforma with your library’s details.
  3. Email PASTICSend the completed form to pl@pastic.gov.pk.
  4. Go livePASTIC sets up your Koha library and sends your library administrator the address and login.
